Why Are Our Trees The Best?

Have you ever noticed when you buy a Christmas Tree from Home Depot, Walmart or one of the local grocery stores that it drops its needles way before Christmas? There is a reason as to why this occurs:

  • In order for a tree to maintain its needles’ vibrancy and health, it must go through what is called “Dormancy.”
  • “Dormancy,” refers to the process where all of the trees’ sap moves to the trunk of the tree when weather conditions are below freezing for an extended period of time.
  • If a tree is harvested when it’s not in Dormancy, the tree begins to die at that very point. These trees are typically harvested in places such as Oregon, Washington, Montana and North Carolina.
  • When you factor in the transportation time and how long these trees sit in trucks, needle kill is already happening.
  • By the time you buy your Christmas Tree from one of the above named outlets, it becomes apparent why you lose needles.

When you buy tree from us, at Santa’s Best Christmas Trees, Inc., we guarantee that your tree will not drop needles all the way through Christmas. Here’s why:

  • We purchase our trees from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
  • It gets so cold out there that the trees are “hardened” to a point where they are used to going in and out of “Dormancy.”
  • Again, “Dormancy” refers to the process where all of the trees’ sap moves to the trunk of the tree when weather conditions are below freezing for an extended period of time.
  • When this happens, the tree forms what’s called a “sap plug.” This sap plug is similar to when our bodies’ go into shock. All of our blood moves from our extremities into our vital organs in order to maintain life. When conditions are favorable, meaning it warms back up, we will cut the bottom 4 inches off of the stump of the tree. This allows water, nutrients and the sap back into the branches and needles were they actually begin “living” again.
  • It is for this reason that our Christmas Trees will begin “living” again once they warm up in your house and you give them ample amounts of water and nutrients.

In fact, if you buy tree from us at Santa’s Best Christmas Trees, Inc., and it drops its needles like the aforementioned, we will reimburse you the cost of your tree and give you a free tree for next years’ Christmas.
